Proof of stake
Also: proof-of-stake, PoS
A consensus method where validators lock up coins as collateral for the right to add blocks.
Validators who follow the rules earn rewards. Those who cheat can lose part of their stake, a penalty called slashing. Ethereum has used proof of stake since 2022.
