The forced sale of a borrower's collateral when its value falls too far relative to the loan.
Lending protocols require more collateral than you borrow. If the collateral’s value drops below a threshold, anyone can repay part of your debt and take your collateral at a discount. Sharp price drops can trigger waves of liquidations that push prices down further.
